The purpose of the Network is to promote health services and health disparities research by faculty at HBCUs focusing on African Americans and other underserved populations. This purpose is accomplished through a variety of activities that may include the following:

  • Convening annual meetings to discuss pertinent issues related to the health status of African Americans and underserved populations;

  • Encouraging and supporting collaboration among researchers and faculty members at HBCUs;

  • Conducting research and disseminating research findings relevant to decreasing health disparities and improving the health status of African Americans and other underserved populations;

  • Establishing partnerships among HBCUs, state and federal government agencies, majority institutions, community based organizations, faith based organizations and other parties interested in reducing health disparities and improving the health status of African Americans and other underserved populations;

  • Facilitating access to funding that supports research and outreach initiatives conducted by researchers and faculty members at HBCUs;

  • Advocating for policies that generate funding for research and outreach activities to eliminate health disparities and improve the health status of African Americans and other underserved populations.

 

  • Supporting the development of the health services research infrastructure at HBCUs.
